Arm introduces Lumex, an architecture for mobile chips focused on on-device artificial intelligence. Arm Holdings, the British semiconductor design company, today unveiled Lumex, its latest mobile chip architecture designed for on-device AI processing.

Meet Lumex: A General-Purpose Family of AI Chips
Lumex is made up of four chip types, all designed for different device types and performance levels:

Optimized for smart wearables such as fitness bands and smartwatches, these chips are designed to minimize power use, providing longer battery life while preserving vital AI features. - Mid-Tier Models:
This chip series targets mid-tier smartphones, balancing performance with battery life and supporting AI use cases such as real-time language translation and improved photography. - High-Performance Models:
Designed for flagship phones, these chips power intense AI use cases, like running large language models and immersive AR experiences. - Peak Performance Models:
Targeting premium devices, these processors deliver best-in-class AI performance to enable smart multitasking and complex AI computing directly on the device.
Key Feature: Every version of Lumex is designed to be performant without cloud dependency, resulting in quicker response times and enhanced privacy.
Manufacturing Perfection: Made for the Future
Lumex chips are based on cutting-edge 3-nanometer process technology, the same process utilized by industry leader TSMC for Apple’s newest A19 series processors.
Arm’s Compute Subsystems (CSS) business unit targets Lumex, aiming to deliver highly integrated, hard macro chip architectures that are easily integrable with EDA design tools. This strategy accelerates device development, enabling faster time-to-market for AI-supported products.
Strategic Expansion: Strengthening Global Presence
Alongside Lumex, Arm revealed a $250 million deal with Malaysia. This marks the first time Arm has directly cooperated with a nation to help build local semiconductor capacity.
The partnership includes:
